Stanley No. 4 Smoothing Plane
Stanley produced the No. 4 plane from 1869 through 1984. They also made it in a smooth and corrugated sole. It measures 9″ long with a 2″ wide cutter. It came with a rosewood handle and knob. The later model planes have a Beech hardwood handle and knob stained and varnished to look like a poor imitation of rosewood.
The No. 4 is the most common of all Stanley planes.
